Yes. We have a 10mb line with coverage to all the cottages most of the time.

Yes, we have two camping cots and a high chair available on request. 

Yes, there are wonderful open spaces for children to run free but younger children need to be supervised at all times. There are unfenced dams and swimming pools and the wood-fired hot tubs present the risk of drowning and burns to small children. Kids must wear shoes when walking in the Fynbos (highly advisable for adults too). Hemel en Aarde Cottages will not take any responsibility for any accidents that occur through a lack of parental supervision.

Yes there is. Adult guests are welcome to take a quick dip to cool off if necessary, for safety reasons the pool is not available for lounging around or socialising at.

There are 3 hot tubs, two that guests can sit in that heat up really quickly at Strelitzia and Olive. The one at Gatehouse is much deeper where one can stand chin deep, but it does take longer to heat. 

It is preferable to bring your own wood – particularly to braai with. We do sell grain bags of Blue Gum (mainly) at R60 per bag.

Strelitzia has an outside built-in undercover braai facility.

Olive has a Weber and a braai under cover, that can be moved onto the lawn if required.

Gatehouse has a built-in outside braai not under cover.

Barn Owl Loft has a Weber on the deck which is partially covered.

If there are no traffic delays the journey should take about an hour and 20 minutes from Cape Town International airport.

The cottages all have TV screens but there is NO DSTV. We do have one spare HDMI cable, but if you have your own please bring it with to connect any devices to the screens. Strelitzia also has a DVD player – bring kids DVD’s if you need to.

No. The rules of our Estate do not permit any visitors to bring any pets.

Yes. Our water comes from our borehole and is pristine.

Yes, if you want to go to the beach, we have outside towels for the hot tubs but they mustn’t be removed from the property.

We have a laundry where guests can use the washing machines to do a load if necessary.

Strelitzia and Gatehouse each have 56cm dishwashers. There is no dishwasher at Olive.

No. We don’t allow loud music and encourage guests to enjoy the sounds of nature. There are many frogs, crickets, owls and other creatures that make enough noise at night.
No. This is not a party venue. Please stay in our tranquil surroundings, but book parties at one of the suitable function venues in close proximity.
No, Hemel en Aarde Cottages is not a wedding venue. Wedding guests often stay with us but attend weddings at the suitable weddings venues around us.
We don’t allow fishing in any of our dams. Please enquire at the Hermanus Fly Fishing Club about fishing the various stocked Trout waters in the Valley.

No, at this stage there are no credit card facilities. Payment needs to be effected via EFT prior to arrival or cash on arrival.

Not usually, sometimes La Vierge is open on a Saturday night, but one has to check. Newton Johnson is open for Tapas on a Friday evening from 4-8pm. The Hemel en Aarde brewery, a 10 minute drive down the valley, is always open at night for good burgers or pizzas amongst other things.
No. Cottages are only cleaned on departure.

The town of Hermanus is about 12km down the road and takes about 15 minutes to get there by car.

About us

Located in the middle of Hemel en Aarde Valley, our 3 cottages offer the perfect opportunity to unwind and relax in the picturesque surrounds.

Gatehouse

This is a 3 roomed cottage (rooms not inter-leading), which has a large semi-covered deck with loungers, outdoor dining table, sofas, a braai facility, and a nice, deep, outdoor wood-fired hot tub. It sleeps, 4 adults and 2 children.

Olive

This is a spacious 1 bedroom cottage with 2 small bathrooms, kitchenette, and open plan sitting room that opens onto an outside deck. There is an outside dining table with a braai and a Weber. The deck overlooks one of the dams and the outdoor hot tub with the mountains in the background.

Strelitzia

There is a large wrap-around balcony where many lazy hours have been spent chilling on the outdoor sofas. There are also loungers and a lovely 6-seater dining table in front of a built in braai looking onto an outdoor wood-fired hot tub. There are 2 spacious bedrooms downstairs both with king beds, one is en-suite and the other has a full bathroom next to it. There is a third loft bedroom room upstairs with  2 single beds and an extra toilet and basin.
